
COURSE TITLE: Behind the Walls: Mechanical, Electrical, and Plumbing Code Updates
CODE EDITION: Florida Building Code Ninth Edition (2026) (Pending approval from FBC)
COURSE DESCRIPTION: This course provides an overview of significant upcoming changes to mechanical, plumbing, and electrical provisions affecting one- and two-family dwellings under the Florida Building Code – Residential, 9th Edition (2026), with a focus on how these updates impact design, permitting, and inspections.
The course also highlights key differences between the 2020 and 2023 editions of the National Electrical Code that affect residential construction, including updates to GFCI protection, surge protection, receptacle requirements, and emerging technologies.
COURSE OBJECTIVES:
After completion, the student will be better able to:
- Identify major mechanical system changes affecting HVAC, ventilation, and refrigerants
- Explain updated plumbing provisions impacting fixtures, flood resistance, and system protection
- Apply new flood elevation and protection requirements for MEP systems
